Common Manufacturer Defects Which We See On Cars

How Field Service Protects Discrete Manufacturer Revenue | The 360 Blog

Thankfully there are very few cases of cars being produced which have manufacturing defects, but there are still many which slip through the cracks and are sold to the consumer. The warranty which you get on a new car was created to take care of these defects when they are identified, but sometimes they are discovered too late, after they have been the cause of an accident. Much of this is not reported by the press, but you only need to speak to a manufacturer defects lawyer to discover the number of issues like this we see.

Some defects are worse than others, and these are the defects which generally are the cause of accidents of this type.

Failure to Deploy Airbags

Whilst this defect doesn’t necessarily cause accidents, it is certainly one which has the potential to cause great injury. Airbags are in place to cushion the blow to the head when involved in a car accident and if they don’t work it can result in some very nasty injuries to both the face and the skull. There are some defects involving airbags whereby they deploy when they shouldn’t, and that can certainly cause injury and the potential for an accident.

Steering Components

A large number of these accidents are caused because of faulty comments in the steering wheel and column. It stands to reason of course that if someone is not able to steer the car properly, they can easily cause an accident. This has been something which we have seen more of since more cars adopted power steering, which features more parts and components than the traditional system.

Windshield Wipers

Just imagine driving your new car down the highway when the rain starts coming down, and you realize at that moment that your windshield wipers are faulty. This is a scary possibility yet one which has happened on our roads. The defect can mean that the wipers don’t work at all, or that they are only able to offer some functionality. This is certainly something that could result in a nasty crash, because of the restricted visibility which the driver is going to have.

Wheel Issues

Many accidents on the road are caused by drivers who have failed to replace their tires which do not have enough tread. Unfortunately however there are also some incidents which take place because the wheels of the car themselves are faulty. The most common issues which we see in accidents that are caused by defects are wheels which crack or break on the road. In many cases drivers are able tor recognize this and get to safety, but there are many more instances where they cannot and they end up causing an accident.

Whilst car manufacturers do have a multi-layered approach to quality control, there are still some defects which they do not identify and they have the very real potential for causing accidents on our roads.
