State of North Carolina: Highest paying jobs currently open

While the private sector is now luring some would-be state workers away from government jobs, working for the state of North Carolina has traditionally been defined by job stability, plus competitive benefits and pay.

The News & Observer previously reported that there was a 20% vacancy rate among state government jobs — meaning there are lots of opportunities if you’re looking for a new gig.

Deputy Chief Medical Director at Central Regional Hospital

Job title: Deputy Chief Medical Director

Job location: Central Regional Hospital in Butner, Granville County

State department: Department of Health and Human Services

Job description: The deputy chief medical officer (DMCO) will work “directly with the Chief Medical Officer, overseeing the organization, planning and delivery of psychiatric/clinical care” provided at Central Regional Hospital, among other tasks. The DMCO also serves on the hospital’s executive team. Applicants must be licensed to practice medicine in the state of North Carolina and have three years of experience, including two years in health services delivery management.

Salary: $165,476 – $310,277 annually

Staff psychiatrist at Cherry Hospital

Job title: Psychiatrist

Job location: Cherry Hospital in Goldsboro, Wayne County
