Gainesville commission discusses proposal to allow for girls to go topless in community

Gainesville Town Commissioner Adrian Hayes-Santos is proposing that the town “de-genderize” its laws, which includes 1 that will make it illegal for gals to display their breasts in public.

His proposal that would allow for gals to legally go topless was fulfilled with criticism from a number of other commissioners late previous month.

But the commission voted for town personnel to occur again with a much more in-depth report, which they system to examine Thursday.

Santos mentioned the topless challenge is only a single facet of the proposal. He mentioned the city’s codes are full of wording that single out a particular sex, and it’s time for that to alter.

“There are multiple portions of the code wherever we are employing ‘his’ and ‘her,’ or we are working with or ‘he’ and ‘him,’ or ‘husband’ or ‘wife,’ and matters like that,” Santos said. “There are multiple illustrations of that.”
